On the evening of March 2, several hundred people enjoyed The North Augusta Arts Councils (NACAC) Student Art Show. Local student artworks graced the walls and exhibit areas of the Arts and Heritage Center. The shows spanned three floors, giving visitors a chance to enjoy the Arts and Heritage Center as well as all the art.
The show featured outstanding 2D and 3D works of art from North Augustas four elementary schools, two middle schools, high school, and Our Lady of Peace. Pieces ranged from acrylic paintings, charcoal drawings, and collages to paper machete facemasks, pottery, and a large dragon made from recyclable materials.
Our community has great young artists and the NACAC would like to thank all the art teachers for their dedicated work with our children. The objective of the art show is to give local students recognition for their artistic ability and provide them with an opportunity to see their work on public display, to be viewed by friends, family, civic leaders and the general public. The art work will be on exhibit through March 27, 2010.
Judges were Beth Jones, Harry Adams, and Jerry Walker. They awarded ribbons for the best artwork submitted by students in elementary, middle, and high school divisions. Best in Show and First Place winners won monetary awards. All participants received a certificate.
The Student Art Show began at 5:30 pm and lasted until 7:30 pm with cookies and punch provided by members of the NACAC.
